  2. To get the vanilla seeds, cut the pod lengthwise with a kitchen knife and scrape out the seeds.

  3. Put the vanilla seeds, butter and eggs in the bowl. Mix the mixture into a smooth batter using a hand mixer or food processor.

  4. Pour the batter into a tin and bake at 175 degrees for 30–45 minutes. Then leave to cool, sprinkle with a few pieces of hazelnut and enjoy!

Did you know?

The simple chocolate cake can also easily be adapted into a vegan recipe. To do this, use plant-based margarine instead of butter. You can replace the eggs with two ripe bananas. Simply mash the bananas with a fork or purée them briefly, then add them to the batter instead of the eggs. This gives your cake a delicious but subtle banana flavor. If you would prefer to avoid that, you can mix two tablespoons of soy flour with two tablespoons of water per egg and add the mixture to provide binding and a stable batter.
