Does BERTRAND contain histamine?

Customers with histamine intolerance have asked us about the tolerability of BERTRAND. However, it is not that easy to answer that question, as one needs to consider different factors. On the one hand, the histamine level is important, which can fluctuate strongly, and on the other, it is the level of biogenic amines and other materials that can block the diamine oxidase (DAO).

BERTRAND with a histamine intolerance?

BERTRAND contains ~ 20 different natural ingredients, which can be sorted into charts according to their tolerability. We have filtered out the ingredients in BERTRAND for you, which could potentially prove to cause problems for customers with histamine intolerance, and described them in an overview. You will also find all ingredients in our FAQ. The data noted here were taken from the Swiss Interest Group Histamine Intolerance (SIGHI).

Laboratory analysis for histamines

Apart from the comparison of our ingredients with the recommendations of the Swiss Interest Group Histamine Intolerance (SIGHI), our product has undergone an accredited analysis by our laboratory INTERTEK Bremen in accordance with DIN EN ISO/IEC 17025. No histidine could be detected in the product. The analysis can be viewed here:

Walnut flour may cause symptoms for customers with histamine intolerance, as it contains amines and additionally functions as a liberator.

Locust bean gum itself does not contain histamine. It is possible, however, that it contains further amines or that it functions as a liberator.

Sunflower seeds function as a liberator and can thus lead to symptoms.

Guava and lemon function as a liberator. Additionally, lemons contain further amines, which can invariably cause problems. In BERTRAND, these two ingredients are mostly unproblematic, however, as the level in 100 g of BERTRAND is still below 0.2 g.

Nutritional yeast is unproblematic insofar as it is inactivated and only contains a very small total amount of glutamate.

Conclusion

In our laboratory analysis, BERTRAND contained no traces of histidine. However, there are ingredients contained in it, which may cause a histamine intolerance in customers. We therefore recommend to confer with a physician or dietician and to order a small package as a tryout, at first.
